About Me

Hello, my name is Maigan Farrell and I will be your Physical Education teacher here at Derfelt Elementary.  I am born and raised in Las Vegas.  I earned my Bachelors Degree in Kinesiolgy/Physical Education at California State University, Bakersfield and then returned home  and attended UNLV to complete my student teaching and receive my teaching license in the state of Nevada.  I will be starting my 18th year of teaching here in CCSD and also at Derfelt Elementary. In my spare time I love hanging out with my family and friends.  I have two boys and they keep my husband and I pretty busy.  Most days you will find us on a baseball field or out playing fetch with our dogs. My assistant, Crystal Benito, and I look forward to another great year teaching students how to love moving and staying healthy for a lifetime.

About My Goals

The Physical Education department  will be providing a variety of challenging and rewarding physical activity experiences for your child this coming school year. Online PE is going to be a new adventure for us all so bare with me as we navigate new ways to stay healthy and fit through online learning.

Basic movement and perceptual motor skills, and creative and rhythmic movement are the areas in which emphasis will be placed.   It is the goal that your child achieves a level of movement in which he/she can feel proud and instill a desire to continue to strive for enhanced movement efficiency.

Physical fitness is also a vital part of our program.  It is our intent to assist students in developing a balance of cardiovascular fitness, strength and muscular endurance flexibility, agility, power and speed, all components of fitness.  We will monitor each student’s progress in these areas by administering fitness assessments throughout the year.  We encourage you and your child to exercise and eat healthy together.  We would appreciate your assistance in promoting an attitude of “fitness for a lifetime” within your family.
